GUITAR WOLF – 30th Anniversary Australian Tour – ADELAIDE
+ Guests

GRENADIERS
HYDROMEDUSA
RAT CATCHER

In today’s current climate, plagued by safe, tedious and easy listening music, Guitar Wolf are just as important if not more so than they were when they formed in Harajuku,Japan, in 1987. To celebrate 30 years of their fierce in-your-face brand of Jet Rock n Roll, this December Guitar Wolf will be heading back to our shores for their 6th Australian tour, primed to stun audiences with their unrelenting, uncompromising, unstoppable and unforgettable live shows across the country.

Guitar Wolf had been destroying stages across Japan for 6 years with their energetic live performances before their first tour of the US in 1993. They had released three albums before being signed to Matador records when they impressed a record executive at an in-store performance in New York. The band has released 11 studio albums to date and a swath of live albums, singles and E.P.s. Guitar Wolf have toured with the likes of John Spencer Blues Explosion, The Cramps, Joan Jett and The 5,6,7,8’s, appeared in the 1997 film "Sore Losers" and zombie cult classic "Wild Zero" (2000) and to top all of that off their 1999 release "Jet Generation" was released labelled with the disclaimer:
"Warning: this is the loudest album ever recorded. Playing at normal volume may cause irreparable damage to stereo equipment. Use at your own risk."

Guitar Wolf are guaranteed to put on a live show you will never forget, and with Adelaide’s 3 most high octane rock bands supporting, this show is not to be missed- December 1 at the Ed Castle.

Davey Lane has been honing his craft for quite a while now – working in the studio and on stage with artists such as Crowded House, Jimmy Barnes, Robyn Hitchcock, Masters’ Apprentices, The Saints as well as legendary Australian rock group You Am I, with whom he has been standing stage right on lead guitar since 1999. Years of learning from many local and international songwriting greats have seen Davey himself grow in turn as a songwriter, with a smart pop sensibility, a keen ear for a big chorus and a surreal turn of phrase.

The culmination of his apprenticeship sees Davey emerge, after months of solitary nocturnal pottering in his Headley Garage studio, with his second full length LP. Entitled I’m Gonna Burn Out Bright, it’s melancholy lyrical themes of mortality and one’s place in the universe are framed in joyous, brash space-pop melodies, forming a veritable collection of long-lost radio hits of eras current and bygone.

Gordi takes her captivating live show on the road to celebrate the release of her debut album "Reservoir" (Jagjaguwar, Liberation). Following recent tours with Asgeir, Bon Iver, The Tallest Man On Earth and festivals in the US, Norway, Iceland and the UK, and sold out shows in New York, LA and London, don’t miss seeing the Sydney-sider in an intimate setting with her expansive live sound.

Tour presented by triple j.

*****

Gordi shares her debut long-player, Reservoir, which follows on from her breakthrough EP, Clever Disguise. The rogue individualism of Reservoir has taken the world by storm, with tastemakers admiring and praising its beautiful and dynamic orchestration.

"The name Reservoir, it’s that thing that you can’t describe, that space that anxious people would probably live their life in. It’s actually an expression my friend and I use. If I’m really down one day, I’ll say, ‘Oh I’m a bit in the reservoir today’. You’re mulling everything over, and you’re sitting in all these thoughts and feelings. In order to be able to write a song I need to go to that place, but I couldn’t live a functional life if I spent all my time in there." – Gordi

In exciting news for local fans, Gordi is delighted to announce she’ll be bringing Reservoir to life on her national album tour in Oct / Nov, playing her largest spaces yet. It’s clear that the 24-year old artist from Canowindra is quickly becoming one of Australia’s most buzzed about songwriters and promising exports.

Reservoir was produced by Gordi and co-produced alongside Tim Anderson (Solange, Banks, Halsey), Ali Chant (Perfume Genius, PJ Harvey) and Alex Somers (Sigur Ros) and was recorded in Wisconsin, Reykjavik, Los Angeles, New York, Bristol, Helsinki and Sydney – all amidst Gordi finishing a six year medical degree. The album is a cohesive work that blends honest feeling, introspection, and self-therapy with an alluring integration of digital and analogue soundscapes, exploring the ramifications of loss and time.

Reservoir has been the feature album all this week on triple j. Leading up to its release Gordi has shared a string of beautiful singles and videos for ‘Heaven I Know’, ‘On My Side’ and ‘Bitter End’, which have received heavy airplay via triple j, FBi and regional community radio. Last week Gordi revealed one of the world’s first multi-platform videos for ‘Bitter End’ which is available for viewing in 360 virtual reality. It was premiered by Noisey and named Vevo’s #MustSee clip. Gordi also recently played a stripped down version of the song on her Stereogum Live Session .

Today, Gordi also shares an acoustic version of ‘Bitter End’ shot at the Greek Theatre Gardens in Barcelona, in between her shows at Primavera earlier this year.

Gordi is currently wrapping up a run of performances in North America, before embarking on an extensive run of European dates. She has already spent the last year touring the globe, selling out headline shows in London and supporting the likes of Bon Iver, Asgeir, Tallest Man on Earth and Highasakite.

In exciting news for local fans, Gordi will bring her intimate electronic soundscapes to life on the Reservoir Tour, kicking off in Melbourne at the end of November. These run of dates will follow her national tour with Gang Of Youths in September and an extensive European tour supporting Asgeir, including a special hometown show with Asgeir at Reykjavik’s iconic Harpa Concert Hall. Gordi will also be performing special in-stores around release in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney over the next three days.

Reservoir is out now through Liberation / Jagjaguwar. Fall in – stay as long as you need. See MoreSee Less
